The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 61 spots for Isaac Rex, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Landing Rosengarten that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A conviction pick on Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 2 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edgerrin Cooper in the 68th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at pick 182 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick184
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Roger Rosengarten at the 184th pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202
Rnd6
Myles Jones
They took Myles Jones at par in the 202nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick224
Rnd7
Isaac Rex
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac Rex in pick 224, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick256
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
They went early on Evan Anderson in Round 7, Pick 36, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
