Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB-

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a D-. There is reaching, and then there is Richard Jibunor at No. 241. The Patriots jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Cooper makes the weekend a net positive.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick 3 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at pick No. 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick35
Rnd2
Graham Barton
They took Graham Barton at par in the 35th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 68. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick103
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
A tidy little value on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 123rd pick, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dallin Holker
They paid sticker price for Dallin Holker in pick No. 126, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in slot 139 is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick149
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick 149, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick182
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Value said wait; Nathaniel Watson in No. 182 says they were not listening. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick239
Rnd7
Erick All
Erick All at the 239th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick241
Rnd7
Richard Jibunor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Richard Jibunor. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick247
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edefuan Ulofoshio. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
