Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesD FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Commanders.

The J. Michael Sturdivant selection is the head-turner. The Commanders reached 58 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 28th pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at No. 59 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kamari Ramsey
By-the-book stuff, Kamari Ramsey at the 71st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at pick 110 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
They let Xavier Nwankpa come to them and pounced at pick No. 187. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick189 Rnd6 Ephesians Prysock
Good price on Ephesians Prysock in slot 189, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Zuhn III. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick221 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the 221st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
This one needs a full-page explanation: J. Michael Sturdivant in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
