Draft Grade — Saints
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The Saints lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with Jack Pyburn in No. 190. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hall.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. More want than need.
Pick16 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In pick No. 16 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick42 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Banks. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132 Rnd4 Joe Royer
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 32, where Joe Royer graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick136 Rnd4 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 136th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick150 Rnd5 Tim Keenan III
They did well to land Tim Keenan III in pick 150, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick172 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
They paid sticker price for Aaron Anderson in slot 172, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jack Pyburn
Jack Pyburn in Round 6, Pick 9 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246 Rnd7 TJ Hall
Steal is underselling it; TJ Hall at No. 246 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256 Rnd7 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
Value said wait; Joey Aguilar in the 257th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
