Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-

NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Patriots. Nobody else had Robert Henry Jr. anywhere near the 212th pick. The Patriots did, by 30 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Bentley steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Zion Young
Zion Young at the 31st overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Nice patience on Omar Cooper Jr., who had no business lasting to pick No. 63. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Sam Roush
Sam Roush at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
Will Lee III
Will Lee III slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 25 is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
Fair-plus on Harold Perkins Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick171
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner is a better player than No. 171 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick191
Rnd6
VJ Payne
No edge and no loss on VJ Payne in pick 191; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick209
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
They let Dallen Bentley come to them and pounced at No. 209. The roster fit checks out.
Pick212
Rnd6
Robert Henry Jr.
A big swing on Robert Henry Jr. at the 212th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe in Round 7, Pick 31 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
