FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Zavion Thomas, 47 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Stukes pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end, quarterback and other spots. Styles falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 9th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick No. 29 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick40
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on D'Angelo Ponds. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick74
Rnd3
Treydan Stukes
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Treydan Stukes adds a cornerback and leaves tight end, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at slot 111 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Louis Moore
They liked Louis Moore enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 148. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick169
Rnd5
Matt Gulbin
No edge and no loss on Matt Gulbin in the 169th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd5
Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas at pick 176 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They reached a country mile for Trey Zuhn III at the 210th pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
