FutureB-
The Dolphins lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story. Nobody had Daevin Hobbs this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 43 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 11.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Daniels. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jeremiyah Love at No. 11 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick30
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In the 30th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick32
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that.
Pick43
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brandon Cisse in pick No. 43. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick87
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
They read the board right and Elijah Sarratt was the payoff at pick 87. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Austin Barber
Austin Barber at slot 90 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Bud Clark
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bud Clark. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick130
Rnd4
Joe Royer
Joe Royer is a better player than slot 130 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
They let CJ Daniels come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs at pick 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick238
Rnd7
Cole Payton
Cole Payton at Round 7, Pick 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
