There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Peny Boone a full 166 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Brooks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
Hit on Tyler Warren and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a mismatch in the passing game, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Davin Vann at the 139th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyreak Sapp at slot 145 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Collin Oliver at Round 5, Pick 23 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Phillip Webb at pick 162, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Nazir Stackhouse in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
JJ Pegues at pick No. 164 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Tonka Hemingway in slot 166, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tim Smith at the 174th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Phil Mafah in Round 6, Pick 2, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.

They paid up for Seth McLaughlin at the 190th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.

Kalel Mullings in Round 6, Pick 26 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Trevor Etienne was the payoff at the 207th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at slot 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ja'Quinden Jackson at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Tahj Brooks at pick 215 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Raheim Sanders at the 226th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
