FutureB-
The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
On value alone, Clark makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Every board in the league had McMillan lower, and that gap is the story. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick 7 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Nice patience on Amarius Mims, who had no business lasting to No. 34. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in pick No. 38, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
A reach on Jalen McMillan in slot 73; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
They did well to land Blake Fisher in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Nelson Ceaser
They went early on Nelson Ceaser in the 106th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd5
Will Shipley
Will Shipley at the 139th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick167
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kitan Oladapo. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick224
Rnd7
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick 224 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers in pick No. 232 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
