Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Raiders found their guy under center in Mendoza: C.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.

Reaching for Kelly left real value on the table behind him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

They banked enough surplus on Orange to cover a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

If Fernando Mendoza and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
No edge and no loss on Fernando Mendoza in pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick21 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick67 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
Nice patience on Germie Bernard, who had no business lasting to the 67th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102 Rnd4 Domonique Orange
Taking Domonique Orange in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick117 Rnd4 Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith in the 117th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick134 Rnd4 Drew Allar
Drew Allar in slot 134 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner at No. 175 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick182 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister at pick No. 182 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick185 Rnd6 Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock in No. 185 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick189 Rnd6 Dalton Johnson
They paid sticker price for Dalton Johnson in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at the 208th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 219th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick221 Rnd7 Jack Kelly
They talked themselves into Jack Kelly at pick 221, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
