Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureD
The Anthony Jr. reach set the tone, and the 49ers never recovered: F.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Vincent Anthony Jr.; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 47 spots ahead at the 126th overall pick.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Spending an early pick on safety with interior defensive lineman and quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Landing Roberts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kamari Ramsey
In the 31st pick they get a two-high chess piece, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick38 Rnd2 LT Overton
A premium they did not need to pay, LT Overton a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
A reach for Ja'Kobi Lane in pick No. 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59 Rnd2 Malachi Fields
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malachi Fields well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in No. 76 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick85 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emmett Johnson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
A reach on Zachariah Branch in the 92nd pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Justin Joly
They took Justin Joly at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95 Rnd3 Julian Neal
They barely believed it either: Julian Neal still on the board at Round 3, Pick 31. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick99 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in the 99th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at No. 123 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick126 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at pick No. 126 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent slot 127 on Jakobe Thomas, a safety they were not short of.
Pick133 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Parker Brailsford at pick 133 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 138th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171 Rnd5 Raylen Wilson
They paid a round early for Raylen Wilson in Round 5, Pick 33, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
They jumped the gun on Isaac Smith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220 Rnd7 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in No. 220 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
They paid sticker price for Ricardo Hallman in slot 228, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
