The Michael Trigg selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 48 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Ponds pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and quarterback still on the board.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Abney II pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
