The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: B. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Patriots shredded theirs for Jared Wiley. He came off 108 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Morgan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels at the 4th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick26
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 26th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in No. 34 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
They left a pile of value on the table to take Braelon Allen this early at Round 3, Pick 4. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
They paid sticker price for Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at pick 104 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick139
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at the 139th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A big swing on Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten in pick 224 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
