Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureC+
The Dolphins bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Jack Pyburn in pick 227. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Stukes pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and interior defensive lineman.

That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 28th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Zion Young
In the 30th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick32 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In slot 32 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
They went early on Gennings Dunker in No. 38, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jacob Rodriguez
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jacob Rodriguez. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Somehow Eli Stowers was still sitting there in slot 75, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
A curious use of No. 87. Quarterback and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Treydan Stukes did not.
Pick90 Rnd3 Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 26. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
A wild overpay on Beau Stephens in pick No. 118, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at pick 129 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at the 130th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick138 Rnd4 Louis Moore
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman to take Louis Moore, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick140 Rnd4 Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost at slot 140 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jadon Canady
Jadon Canady in pick 205 is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jack Pyburn
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Pyburn well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at No. 238 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241 Rnd7 De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at the 241st overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
