Draft Grade — Vikings

FutureC+
The Vikings bled value on every deal, hence the C-. The Vikings went off the board in a big way for Zxavian Harris, 97 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A mixed bag that lands at C-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ponds. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher went begging.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If Avieon Terrell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick49
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren went about where he belonged in pick No. 49. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
They paid up for Jacob Rodriguez at slot 68 when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick82
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, D'Angelo Ponds adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick97
Rnd3
Sam Hecht
Value with a capital V on Sam Hecht in Round 3, Pick 33, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. in the 112th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Zxavian Harris
They reached into another round for Zxavian Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick163
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
They let Tanner Koziol come to them and pounced at No. 163. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They talked themselves into Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 196, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas at Round 6, Pick 34 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick218
Rnd7
Cole Payton
They reached a country mile for Cole Payton at the 218th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
