Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Bryce Boettcher at slot 133, a reach of 25 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Roush pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick53 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in pick No. 53 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58 Rnd2 Carter Smith
They reached a country mile for Carter Smith at Round 2, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
They paid a round early for Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 80, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92 Rnd3 Caden Curry
They went early on Caden Curry in slot 92, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jaishawn Barham
The board had cheaper options than Jaishawn Barham at the 99th overall pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds slipping to pick 113 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick121 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
No edge and no loss on Michael Trigg in No. 121; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick127 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
A tidy little value on Keylan Rutledge in the 127th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Bryce Boettcher
Bryce Boettcher at pick 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Sam Roush
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sam Roush in Round 5, Pick 22. The roster fit checks out.
