The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B. There is reaching, and then there is Monroe Freeling at the Round 3 slot. The 49ers jumped the board by 37 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
LT Overton
LT Overton at pick 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 26 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darrell Jackson Jr. this early at the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at slot 72 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They did well to land Keylan Rutledge in the 127th pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
