There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Que Robinson a full 85 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Alexander at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Ivey a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 96, where Donovan Jackson graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Darius Alexander at Round 5, Pick 27 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Que Robinson at slot 169 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
