Draft Grade — Patriots

Daniels is the Patriots' new face under center. Grade: B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent slot 69 on Ben Sinnott, a name the board had a full 69 spots lower. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Hardy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In slot 5 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick34 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Graham Barton at pick No. 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia is a better player than the 68th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at No. 69, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Good price on Tykee Smith in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They paid up for Braelon Allen at the 139th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182 Rnd6 AJ Barner
AJ Barner in the 182nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Zion Logue
They paid a round early for Zion Logue in Round 7, Pick 4, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick232 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in the 232nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
