Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Patriots.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Thomas pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

On value alone, Jordan makes the weekend a net positive. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
No edge and no loss on Drake Maye in Round 1, Pick 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick34 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in slot 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at No. 103 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick139 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
A reach on Theo Johnson in pick No. 139; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182 Rnd6 Christian Jones
The board had cheaper options than Christian Jones at pick 182, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at the 232nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
