Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Patriots did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Clark pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick23 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at pick No. 68 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at the 86th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick92 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in No. 92, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at slot 103, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139 Rnd5 Johnny Dixon
They let Johnny Dixon come to them and pounced at pick 139. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick159 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
They read the board right and Nehemiah Pritchett was the payoff at the 159th pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick182 Rnd6 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader is a better player than No. 182 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 224 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232 Rnd7 Darius Muasau
A slide stopped in slot 232, with Darius Muasau worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
