After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Vidal. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

So much rides on Michael Penix Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
