Tackle Ted DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent pick No. 138 on Oscar Delp, a name most had 32 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Hunter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
LT Overton
In pick No. 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good price on Jake Slaughter in the 58th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Lee Hunter in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Nice patience on Bryce Lance, who had no business lasting to No. 127. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
They liked Domani Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 33. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
A wild overpay on Oscar Delp in the 138th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
They paid sticker price for Eric McAlister in slot 171, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
