No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent pick No. 138 on Oscar Delp, a name most had 32 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Hunter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

In pick No. 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.

Good price on Jake Slaughter in the 58th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Lee Hunter in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

Nice patience on Bryce Lance, who had no business lasting to No. 127. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
