Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
On value alone, Stover makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting Hopper proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In No. 13 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 68, where Edgerrin Cooper graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103
Rnd4
Cade Stover
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick105
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 105th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
The board had cheaper options than Ty'Ron Hopper at Round 5, Pick 3, and it noticed. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick150
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Nothing to complain about; Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick182
Rnd6
Isaiah Williams
A reach on Isaiah Williams in slot 182; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick224
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
