Somebody in pick 212 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Nicholas Singleton, the No. 105 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They are betting Rourke proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
Benjamin Morrison at slot 34 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Deone Walker in the 65th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a safety like Xavier Watts reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Carson Beck in the 70th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Kurtis Rourke at pick 103 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to No. 138, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Ricky White III in the 178th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nicholas Singleton at pick 212 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DJ Campbell in the 216th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Miles Frazier in pick No. 217, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
