The board owed the Saints one, and it paid up: Omar Cooper Jr., the No. 55 name on the board, sitting there at pick 73 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
