Good, not great, for the Giants: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Giants did exactly that with Haynes King in the Round 7 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
On value alone, Branch makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In pick 28 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Caleb Lomu
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Lomu at No. 37. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47
Rnd2
Chris Brazzell II
A slide stopped in the 47th pick, with Chris Brazzell II worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69
Rnd3
Emmanuel Pregnon
Taking Emmanuel Pregnon in slot 69 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
Somehow D'Angelo Ponds was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick105
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Louis Moore at the 145th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
Steal is underselling it; Aamil Wagner at Round 6, Pick 5 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor in pick No. 192 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244
Rnd7
Haynes King
They left a pile of value on the table to take Haynes King this early at the 244th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
