FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B+. The 49ers torched the value chart for Eric O'Neill, taking him 83 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Hill Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They read the board right and Anthony Hill Jr. was the payoff at pick 58. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick92
Rnd3
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at the 92nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95
Rnd3
J.C. Davis
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.C. Davis this early at the 95th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill at No. 127 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
A tidy little value on Jakobe Thomas in No. 133, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick138
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at the 138th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
A straight-up fair deal on Pat Coogan at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
A premium they did not need to pay, Roman Hemby a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
