Dale DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB+

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Commanders, and a B- to prove it. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Commanders did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.
The Slaughter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Moss has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 7 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Value with a capital V on Jake Slaughter in the 71st overall pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Malik Benson
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Malik Benson worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Keagen Trost
A tidy bit of business in pick 187, where Keagen Trost graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
They took Keyshaun Elliott at par in the 209th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick223
Rnd7
Miller Moss
Miller Moss at slot 223 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
