Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the Steelers steal Marshall Jr. and grade out a B. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Steelers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Marshall Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Steelers paired the rookies with proven help, Jayden Reed leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In slot 30 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A real need, handled.
Pick56
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Circle this one: Tyleik Williams at the 56th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick84
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A reasonable price with a little left over, Andrew Mukuba in pick 84. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
They read the board right and Smael Mondon Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 123. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick156
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. slipping to Round 5, Pick 18 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick157
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
The board had Trevor Etienne higher than the 157th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick185
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ollie Gordon II at slot 185. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jason Marshall Jr.
They will replay Jason Marshall Jr. at the 229th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac TeSlaa. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
