Somebody in pick 166 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Reaching for Wease Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A real head-scratcher, Jared Ivey in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Andrew Mukuba in the 67th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Majors at pick 78 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Hollin Pierce in slot 94 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cody Simon. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Brown this early at Round 4, Pick 28. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Raheim Sanders in the 162nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 166 is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Wease Jr. in the 169th pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
