Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Patriots answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Every board in the league had Monheim lower, and that gap is the story. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first.

The Jackson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at the 34th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent No. 68 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick137 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Khyree Jackson in pick No. 137. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jonah Monheim in the 139th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in slot 140 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157 Rnd5 Christian Jones
A wild overpay on Christian Jones in pick 157, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
They reached into another round for Roger Rosengarten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224 Rnd7 Carson Steele
A big swing on Carson Steele at slot 224, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
