FutureA+
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Robinson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In No. 7 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Nothing to complain about; Adonai Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jonah Elliss
Value with a capital V on Jonah Elliss in the 55th overall pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Layden Robinson this early at Round 5, Pick 3. The roster fit checks out.
Pick162
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 162 is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick188
Rnd6
AJ Barner
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on AJ Barner. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jase McClellan
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jase McClellan in slot 224. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick228
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Keegan at Round 7, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
