Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the C.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jalen Kimber at Round 7, Pick 12 is 47 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned.

Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Hit on JC Latham and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 JC Latham
In pick 11 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in the 34th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brenden Rice. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in pick No. 103 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick139 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
They took Theo Johnson at par in No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
Taking LaDarius Henderson in slot 182 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224 Rnd7 Darius Muasau
Nice patience on Darius Muasau, who had no business lasting to pick 224. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jalen Kimber
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalen Kimber in the 232nd overall pick, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
