When a board-topper like Brashard Smith slides to pick 159, you do not overthink it, and the Vikings did not.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Andrew Mukuba here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jake Majors at the 138th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brashard Smith in pick 159 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
