Out of North Rock Creek High School in Oklahoma, Hawkins was a lightly recruited three-star who rushed for 1,602 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior but drew scholarship offers only from North Texas, Central Oklahoma and Emporia State. He signed with the Mean Green and immediately rewrote the record book.As a true freshman in 2025, Hawkins ran for 1,434 yards and 25 touchdowns on 6.2 yards per carry, added 32 catches for 370 yards and four scores, and set an FBS freshman record for touchdowns and points in a season. He was named American Conference Rookie of the Year and a Walter Camp Second Team All-American.
His best games included 189 rushing yards and five touchdowns against UAB, 197 yards and four scores against Navy, and 198 yards with two touchdowns against San Diego State. Hawkins entered the transfer portal after the season and followed head coach Eric Morris to Oklahoma State, where he has three years of eligibility remaining.

Caleb Hawkins was one of the biggest freshman surprises in the country in 2025. A three-star recruit with only a handful of scholarship offers, he rushed for 1,434 yards and 25 touchdowns at North Texas and set an FBS freshman scoring record. His production was not built on untouched runs either. Hawkins finished with 1,056 yards after contact and forced 86 missed tackles, showing that his size and contact balance consistently translated on the field.He also has more explosiveness than his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame might suggest. Hawkins recorded 507 breakaway yards and topped 15 yards on more than 40 carries. He added 32 receptions and was dependable on short throws, giving the offense another way to get the ball in his hands. Games such as his five-touchdown performance against UAB and four-score outing against Navy showed how quickly he can take control when he gets rolling.
The move to Oklahoma State should give a much clearer picture of where Hawkins stands as an NFL prospect. He now has to produce against better defensive fronts, become more reliable in pass protection and show more as a receiver than he was asked to at North Texas. The rushing traits are already there: size, balance, power, burst and a strong feel for the end zone. If those hold up against Power Four competition, he has the tools to develop into a lead back who can stay on the field for all three downs.
