In 2020 as a freshman Lewis saw action in 11 games and played a total of 421 snaps at Cornerback for the Fighting Irish. He recorded 30 tackles, 3 assists, while adding 8 stops. In coverage Lewis notched up 7 pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 100.0.

As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 13 games and logged 832 snaps for the Fighting Irish. He made 49 tackles, 7 assists, and had 13 stops. In coverage he totaled 3 pass breakups, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 104.9.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Gives great effort in run support, sticking his nose in as a tackler, and should be able to contribute as a special teamer covering kicks.
  • Lewis has the straight-line speed to recover. His ball skills are tremendous, with good hands and the potential to take it to the house any time Lewis gets his hands on the ball.
  • Flashes good ball skills. He has the fluidity and change-of-direction ability to mirror quicker receivers underneath.
  • Has the fluidity, speed and quick feet to come down and defend slot receivers in man coverage. Lewis also does a nice job breaking down in space as a tackler after the catch.
  • Fits best in a zone system at the next level due to size and ability to close to the ball.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Tends to play conservatively and give too much cushion when playing off.
  • Gets sloppy with his backpedal when playing off-man and seems to lack the instincts to close on the ball.
  • Better in press coverage than in off coverage, when Lewis can look shaky and unsure when transitioning out of his backpedal. He’ll give up throws underneath.
  • The majority of the time last season, he was able to physically overwhelm opposing receivers early in the down, a scenario that won’t play out as often against NFL receivers.
