Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B to prove it. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 84 spots for Logan Lee, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Torrence falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
Nice patience on Rome Odunze, who had no business lasting to pick 23. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper slipping to No. 59 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86
Rnd3
DJ James
DJ James in the 86th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A premium they did not need to pay, Mohamed Kamara a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Logan Lee
They talked themselves into Logan Lee at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224
Rnd7
Blake Watson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Blake Watson this early at pick No. 224. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Ro Torrence
They robbed the room for Ro Torrence here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick247
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus in slot 247 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
