Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent pick No. 238 on Devin Culp, a name most had 66 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In pick 23 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in the 59th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at No. 86 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123 Rnd4 Nehemiah Pritchett
Value said wait; Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 123 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at the 127th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
They reached a country mile for Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238 Rnd7 Devin Culp
A big swing on Devin Culp at slot 238, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247 Rnd7 Taulia Tagovailoa
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taulia Tagovailoa this early at the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
