FutureD-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Texans a B. The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the No. 198 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 25. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Reaching for Hopper left real value on the table behind him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. It is not that Arnold is a bad player; it is that the Texans had louder needs to answer first.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 23 they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick No. 24 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
The board fumbled Quinyon Mitchell all the way to No. 41, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Terrion Arnold adds a cornerback and leaves offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick59
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 59 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, McKinnley Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Max Melton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Max Melton at cornerback with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick124
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Value with a capital V on Isaac Guerendo in the 124th pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ty'Ron Hopper
They reached into another round for Ty'Ron Hopper, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at slot 236 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Circle this one: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick 245 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick250
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
They will replay Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 30 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
