Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA-
The Bears let Lew fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Trigg has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. However the rest shakes out, Lew at that price is a win they earned.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In slot 20 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
They read the board right and Kayden McDonald was the payoff at pick 41. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
They paid sticker price for Jonah Coleman in the 45th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick50 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
They jumped the gun on Dillon Thieneman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in No. 72, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick81 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Fair-plus on Deontae Lawson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
They barely believed it either: Germie Bernard still on the board at pick 88. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick114 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
They went early on Michael Trigg in Round 4, Pick 14, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick119 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
No drama and no debate, Monroe Freeling went about where he belonged in pick No. 119. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159 Rnd5 Zane Durant
Zane Durant in slot 159 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick183 Rnd6 Monroe Mills
A tidy bit of business in No. 183, where Monroe Mills graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick197 Rnd6 Lander Barton
They let Lander Barton come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233 Rnd7 Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie at the 233rd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick252 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
Value with a capital V on Diego Pavia in the 252nd pick, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
