Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B.

Priorities are a choice, and the Texans made a strange one, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE in the Round 3 slot with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots crying out for the pick instead.

That Owens pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.

Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In slot 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Fair-plus on Xavier Worthy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Cade Stover
A curious use of the 86th overall pick. Offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a TE-EDGE in Cade Stover did not.
Pick124 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips in No. 124 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
They let Tyler Davis come to them and pounced at the 128th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
A slide stopped in pick No. 236, with Frank Gore Jr. worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Owens in Round 7, Pick 25. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick250 Rnd7 Jordan Whittington
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Whittington in the Round 7 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
