Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall

FutureC+
The Cardinals fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Emory Jones at the 94th overall pick, a reach of 416 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That Randolph Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A tidy little value on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 34, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick66
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
A tidy bit of business in the 66th overall pick, where Brandon Dorlus graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at slot 70 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in Round 3, Pick 22 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Emory Jones
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Emory Jones well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102
Rnd4
Spencer Rattler
This one needs a full-page explanation: Spencer Rattler in slot 102, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Taulia Tagovailoa
A big swing on Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick133
Rnd4
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in pick No. 133 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton at No. 169 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198
Rnd6
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at pick 198 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. in the 223rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick226
Rnd7
Kavosiey Smoke
Kavosiey Smoke at Round 7, Pick 6 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Rasheen Ali
Fair-plus on Rasheen Ali, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss in Round 7, Pick 35 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256
Rnd7
Marshel Martin
Marshel Martin in slot 256 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
