Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Gabe Hall at slot 188. The Texans jumped the board by 33 and dared it to prove them wrong. No fireworks, but a solid B.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Tampa to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 42 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick62 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick86 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 23 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They read the board right and Zak Zinter was the payoff at slot 113. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in pick 123, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127 Rnd4 Christian Jones
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in No. 127. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gabe Hall well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick218 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 218 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick247 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
A reach for Rasheen Ali in pick 247; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
