49ers DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cardinals kept it disciplined and banked a B. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Cardinals walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
They paid sticker price for Darius Robinson in pick No. 35, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
A straight-up fair deal on Ruke Orhorhoro at pick 66, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick71
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Cade Stover in the 71st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick90
Rnd3
Javon Baker
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at Round 3, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
