Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Cardinals.

For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Cardinals walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.

Getting Benson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting Puni proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 2 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick 21 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in the 34th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at No. 66 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick70 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Trey Benson at Round 3, Pick 6 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
A conviction pick on Dominick Puni at pick No. 85 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 Tory Horton
The board had Tory Horton higher than the Round 4 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler at the 133rd overall pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd5 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in pick 139 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick169 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
They paid up for Ajani Cornelius at slot 169 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick198 Rnd6 Isaiah Adams
Isaiah Adams in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223 Rnd7 Joshua Gray
A quiet steal in the 223rd pick: Joshua Gray for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226 Rnd7 DeWayne Carter
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 6, where DeWayne Carter graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
