Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Gore Jr. from sliding. Grade: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Frank Gore Jr. slide 27 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Eichenberg reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat slid further than he should have, and No. 59 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaden Hicks at the 86th overall pick is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick124
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in pick 124 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 128 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick236
Rnd7
KT Leveston
No drama and no debate, KT Leveston went about where he belonged in slot 236. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
Value with a capital V on Sheridan Jones in Round 7, Pick 25, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick250
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Taking Frank Gore Jr. in the 250th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
