Draft Profile: Bio
A four-star and a top-110 national recruit out of Friendswood, Texas, Shelby picked USC over hometown Texas and comes from a football family, the son of former Arkansas end Shannon Shelby and brother of Louisiana-Monroe defensive end Ty. He improved his production every season, growing into a starting edge rusher with plus speed, length and bend off the corner.

In 2025 Shelby posted 4.5 sacks and 30 pressures across thirteen games with eighteen quarterback hurries, an interception and a strong pressure rate. He flashed an interception against Notre Dame and finished as one of the Trojans' more productive rushers, a reliable tackler whose pass-rush volume points to more sacks as the rush plan and counters develop. The improving production every season, the plus speed and length, and the football bloodlines keep the developmental arrow pointing up as the run defense firms up.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Explosive edge speed, winning the corner with a quick first step
  • Generated thirty pressures and five sacks as a pass-rush threat
  • Beat Michigan State for two sacks and five total pressures
  • Cleans up tackles dependably, missing only two all year
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • A poor run defense, a clear early-down limitation
  • Recorded just eleven run stops, light for a starter's snaps
  • Wins on speed with little power to convert when stalled
  • Anchor gives way when tackles get into his frame
  • Counter plan is still developing behind the raw pressure production
Scouting Report: Summary
Shelby is a speed-based edge who wins the corner with a quick first step, and he turned that burst into thirty pressures and five sacks as a pass-rush threat for USC. He beat Michigan State for two sacks and five pressures, intercepted a pass to flash awareness beyond the rush, and finished as a tackler at a high level with only two misses. The get-off and the pass-rush production are the calling cards, and they show up against quality tackles.

The run defense is the clear weakness. His liability in run support, he recorded only eleven stops on a starter's snap count, and he wins almost entirely on speed with little power to convert when the rush stalls. His anchor gives way when tackles get into his frame, and the pass-rush production currently outpaces a still-developing counter plan. He is a passing-down asset whose early-down value has not arrived.

Used as a designated rusher, he can win on third down while he adds strength and a power element to hold up against the run. The speed and the production give him a real role, but the run-defense limitations keep the grade modest. He projects as a Day 3 sub-package rusher with upside, a speed weapon for a defense that protects him on early downs.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
