Draft Profile: Bio
A multi-sport athlete out of Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas, Charles Demmings competed in both football and track before drawing interest from several smaller programs. He signed with Stephen F. Austin and saw just 15 snaps as a true freshman in 2021 before earning a full-time role the following year.Demmings started 11 games as a sophomore in 2022, picking up his first career interception and three pass breakups. His junior season brought a step forward: he logged 583 snaps, added two more interceptions and four pass breakups, and posted a career-high three breakups in a single game against Utah Tech. By 2024, he had earned Second-Team All-Southland honors with two interceptions and five pass breakups.
His 2025 campaign was his best. Demmings earned First-Team All-Southland and First-Team AFCA FCS All-American recognition after recording four interceptions and six pass breakups. He finished his career with 63 tackles, nine interceptions, and 35 passes defended across 42 games, setting the Stephen F. Austin program record for career passes defended. He was invited to the 2026 Senior Bowl.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Finds the ball consistently; nine career picks because his eyes go to the right place.
- Hips are smooth and quiet out of his backpedal, stays square through the break.
- Has the speed to carry vertical routes and recover when he gives a step at the stem.
- Uses his length well to squeeze receivers toward the sideline and shrink throwing windows.
- Tackled much better as a senior; wrapped up cleanly and cut out the arm-reaching.
- Closes hard to the catch point and gets his hands into the receiver's pocket to disrupt.
- Good size for an outside corner with enough vertical pop to contest above the rim.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Southland receivers rarely tested him with NFL-caliber releases or separation ability.
- Sophomore tape was ugly; gave up too many easy completions underneath and looked lost at times.
- Slow to trigger downhill from off-coverage; sits flat-footed reading the QB's eyes.
- Gets grabby mid-route when he feels a receiver pulling away, and officials find it.
- Light for the position and bigger receivers can push him off his spot at the line.
- Shows some stiffness flipping his hips when quicker receivers change direction on him.
Scouting Report: Summary
Demmings has the frame and movement skills to compete for a role as a boundary corner, and his best fit is a scheme that lets him press and play tight man coverage on the outside. His hip fluidity keeps him in phase through the route stem, and he has the speed to carry vertical routes without giving up easy separation. The coverage production from his final two college seasons was strong, and nine interceptions over four years tells you this is a player whose hands show up when the ball is in the air. He will need time to improve his off-coverage reads, but in a press-heavy system he can contribute early.The competition jump from the Southland Conference to the NFL is the fair question with this evaluation, and it cannot be dismissed. But Demmings did everything he could at his level, and the athletic testing backs up what the tape shows. He has real tools to work with at the next level, and the nearly 2,000 career snaps at one program give him a foundation of experience that matters when the game speeds up.
He should be able to push for a CB3 or CB4 spot relatively quickly while contributing on special teams from day one as a gunner. The man coverage ability and ball production are real enough to earn defensive reps in sub packages, and there is room to grow into a reliable outside corner in the right system. The off-coverage and play strength concerns are worth monitoring, but the overall package here is a roster-worthy corner with a clear development path ahead of him.
