Draft Profile: Bio
Davison Igbinosun, a cornerback from Ohio State, has quickly made his mark in college football. After a standout freshman season at Ole Miss where he started 10 games and earned freshman All-American honors, Igbinosun transferred to Ohio State for the 2023 season. There, he immediately stepped into a starting role, playing all 13 games and ranking third on the team in tackles with 59 total and 39 solo stops.

A native of Union, New Jersey, Igbinosun was a highly touted four-star recruit coming out of high school. He led Union High School to a 9-1 record in 2021 and was named to the all-BCC Division 5A first team. His high school career was impressive, with 211 tackles, seven interceptions, and 19 passes defensed over his tenure.

At Ohio State, Igbinosun quickly became a key player in the Buckeyes' secondary. He led all Ohio State defensive players with 781 snaps on defense and added five pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries to his stat line. His performances earned him honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference honors on both the coaches' and media ballots, solidifying his status as a rising star in college football.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Blazer with elite long speed to carry vertical routes and close cushion in a hurry
  • Rangy build with plus length to contest at the catch point and disrupt passing lanes
  • Fluid hip flip and transition to stay in phase when matching receivers downfield
  • Shows good awareness in zone drops, consistently getting proper depth in coverage
  • Explosive plant-and-drive ability to click and close on underneath routes from off coverage
  • Physical jam technique in press, using length to re-route receivers at the line of scrimmage
  • Strong tackler who takes good angles in run support and limits yards after catch
  • Competitive play style with the mentality to challenge every catch and contest 50/50 balls
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Can get grabby when beaten off the line, leading to potential penalties at the next level
  • Occasionally loses leverage on double moves, relying too heavily on recovery speed
  • Needs to improve ball tracking skills to convert more pass breakups into interceptions
  • Shows more comfort in zone than man coverage, with room to improve mirroring quicker receivers
  • Can be overzealous in run support, sometimes abandoning coverage responsibilities too quickly
Scouting Report: Summary
Igbinosun's elite athleticism and length project well to the NFL level. His versatility allows him to function in both man and zone schemes, with a current edge in zone coverage performance. His blazing speed enables him to match up against deep threats, while his physicality is an asset in press coverage. At the next level, Igbinosun's ability to contribute immediately on special teams while developing his coverage skills will be valuable.

His experience in multiple defensive systems should accelerate his learning curve in adapting to NFL schemes. With continued refinement of his technique, particularly in maintaining leverage and improving his ball skills, Igbinosun has the tools to develop into a reliable starting cornerback.

Given his athletic profile and collegiate production, Igbinosun profiles as a potential Day 2 selection in the NFL Draft. Teams running predominantly zone schemes may value him higher on their draft boards, but his physical traits give him the potential to excel in various defensive systems as he develops.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
